The Believer and the Beloved is based upon Watchman Nee's book The Song of
Songs. While most studies today address the Song of Solomon as a teaching tool applicable
to the husband/wife relationship, Watchman Nee approaches it as an allegorical
book addressing a Believer's relationship with the Beloved. As such it is
a love story between a Christian and the Christ.
If we look at the Song as Nee does, then we can see the relationship
progress just like a contemporary novel with all the happiness and pathos
of a budding relationship with its ups and downs, highs and lows, successes
and failures. And, if you think about it, isn’t that a lot like our relationship
with Jesus?
The study consists of the scripture with speakers identified according to
Watchman Nee’s book, excerpts from a short story based on the allegorical
interpretation, a list of allegorical definitions as used by Nee, and then a
discussion section with questions that address a Believer’s journey in her/his
relationship with the Beloved.
